KARACHI: Lawyers bodies, civil society and various political parties staged countrywide demonstrations on Sunday in support of superior judiciary after it struck down two presidential orders about the appointment of judges on Saturday evening. The Jamaat-e-Islami held a protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club against the government. The protestors were holding placards inscribed with pro-judiciary slogans. The protest was led by JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehanti. Similarly, the JI also staged protest outside the Lahore Press Club, while the Tehrik-e-Insaaf took out a rally. Addressing the participants, speakers said that they would not hesitate to take to streets again for the cause of judiciary's independence. A rally was taken out in Multan in support of judges. The participants of the rally chanted slogans in favour of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khwaja Sharif and senior judge Justice Saqib Nisar. They said that President Zardari had adopted the dictatorial approach under a democratic set-up. In Quetta, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf workers staged a demonstration in front of Press Club.
